This stitch is another variation of the Speckled Slip Stitch which involves three colors. Worked in a multiple of 2 stitches plus 1, the Speckled Slip Stitch II consists of an 8-row repeat. Colors are alternated every two rows, regardless of the row sequence. For example, you might begin the first two rows with the color yellow but as you repeat these two rows again the second time around, you will begin with the color teal and not yellow.
Multiple of 2 sts + 1
Color: beginning with the 1st row, work 2 rows in Color A, 2 rows in Color B, and 2 rows in Color C throughout the project. (Color A – Yellow, Color B – Teal, Color C – Coral)
Row 1 (RS): knit.
Row 2: purl.
Row 3: k1, *sl 1 purlwise, k1; rep from * to the end.
Row 4: k1, *yf, sl 1 purlwise, yb, k1; rep from * to the end.
Row 5: knit.
Row 6: purl.
Row 7: k2, *sl 1 purlwise, k1; rep from * to the last st, k1.
Row 8: k2, *yf, sl 1 purlwise, yb, k1; rep from * to the last st, k1.
Repeat Rows 1-8.
yf (a.k.a wyif)
(yarn forward)=bring the yarn forward as if to perform a PURL stitch.
yb (a.k.a wyib)
(yarn back)=This term is used when the yarn is at the front of the work (after a PURL stitch has been performed) but has to be put to the back before the next action is performed. Take the yarn from the front to back between the two needles.
