This hat has cabled ribbing and is knitted with bulky yarn. I love working with bulky yarn because it’s quick to knit–I am an instant gratification kinda gal (no sweaters for me in the near future).
Couldn’t find a last minute model so I guess I’ll do. |
Here is the pattern:
Materials
2 skeins of bulky weight yarn 100g/3.5oz [I used an acrylic/wool blend-it’s within my budget :)]
Size 11 (8mm) circular needles
Yarn needle
Pattern
Cast on 80 sts.
Knit first round.
Gauge
4 sts=1 in (approx. 2.5cm)
Ribbing
Rd 1-2: *K12, P4; rep from * to end of round.
Rd 3: *C6B, C6F, P4; rep from * to end of round.
Rd 4-6: *K12, P4; rep from * to end of round.
Repeat Rds 1-6 once more.
Body
Rd1: K14, M1, *K16, M1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2. [85 sts]
Knit until hat reaches approximately 8″ (20.5cm) from cast on edge.
Cap Shaping
Rd 1: * K15, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [80 sts]
Rd 2 and every even numbered rds: knit.
Rd 3: *K14, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [75 sts]
Rd 5: *K13, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [70 sts]
Rd 7: *K12, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [65 sts]
Rd 9: *K11, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [60 sts]
Rd 11: *K10, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [55 sts]
Rd 12: *K9, K2tog; rep from * to end of round. [55 sts]
Cut yarn leaving an 8″ (20.5cm) tail and weave yarn through remaining sts. Pull tightly to close and weave in end.
Wear it proudly!
I love this hat, but the instructions do not seem complete. I am somewhat new to knitting, (intermediate), but I do not see the instructions for the 20 plus rows that would make up the double cable.
Please help!
Joan,
The instructions for that part of the hat is listed under “Ribbing” right below “Gauge.”
Is this gauge correct? When I use #11 needles and “bulky weight” yarn, I get 2.5 stitches to the inch, and I am not a loose knitter. If I drop down a couple of needle sizes in order to get 4 stitches to the inch, it will be a very tight knit. Suggestions?
The yarn I used was bulky weight or chunky weight. It is #5. The gauge should be 14-15 stitches for 4″ or approximately 3.5 per 1″.
Thanks Purlavenue, great pattern, I’ve just made it, it will keep my ears warm this early 2015 xxx
please define what M1 means
It means make one and is an increase technique: http://techknitting.blogspot.com/2007/05/very-nearly-invisible-increase.html
