Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs. Everywhere I look, that’s all I see. News about tariffs. I knew it was only a matter of time until it trickled down to yarn and knitting supplies.
In the news today, a sobering reality: the elimination of the de minimis has triggered a potential yarn supply shortage in the U.S., destabilizing both supply chains and the crafters who depend on them. As knitters, we know that some of the finest yarns come from abroad, and now, international brands are unable to accommodate U.S. customers, either postponing shipments to the United States or cutting off supplies altogether.
This is sad news indeed. Many knitters and fiber artists are stocking up on supplies. I might have to brave the storm by going through my current yarn stash or switching to synthetic fibers. Many years ago, I did entertain the idea of spinning yarn from my dog’s fur. Perhaps I will make that a reality?
