Simple Baby Beanie Pattern

Hey knitters!

I’ve just finished my first knitted baby project. This beanie is designed for a newborn. So if you want to knit it for an older child, feel free to adjust as needed. It’s a very simple beanie done with ribbed and stockinette stitches.

This is what it looks like finished…

I knitted a flower for my hat to add flair. This is optional. Some other recommendations would be stripes, or maybe you could add a pom-pom.

Knitted flowers

For the middle part of the flower, I simply made a big knot with my yarn. To make a knitted flower, I used Susan B. Anderson’s technique.

This is what my flower looks like when put together…

And the final product…..drum roll please……

Simple Baby Beanie

Materials

1 skein of medium weight yarn 50g (I recommend something very soft for a baby)
4 size 6 (4mm) DPN
Yarn needle

Gauge

6 sts=1 inch

Pattern

Cast on 66 sts. Divide sts evenly on three needles (22 sts per needle)

Ribbing

Body

Knit until the beanie reaches approximately 4″ (10.2cm) from cast-on edge.

Cap Shaping

Rd 1: *K2tog; rep from * to end of round. (33 sts)
Rd 2: knit.
Rd 3: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, K1. (17 sts)
Rd 4: knit.
Rd 5: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, K1. (9 sts)
Rd 6: knit.
Rd 7: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, K1. (5 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving an 8″ (20.5cm) tail, and weave yarn through remaining sts. Pull tightly to close and weave in the end.

Optional: attach flower.

See, that wasn’t difficult and it’s quick too!
