Pumpkinhead Slouchy Hat

Hi knitters!

Even though the official start of the fall season has just begun, I admit that I’ve been in the fall spirit since August. For a couple of weeks now I’ve been designing a pumpkin hat pattern in lieu of other knitting designs that are still in the works. I wanted to this hat to be simple to knit and yet festive and fun. This is what I came up with:

knitted pumpkin hat

As you can see, this hat has a striking resemblance to my Simple Ribbed Hat. This is because I used the Simple Ribbed Hat pattern as a foundation and modified it.

Also, you may have noticed that I have called this pattern Pumpkinhead Slouchy Hat. Yes, I know that there is a horror movie called Pumpkinhead and it is a prison slang term as well. I chose this name well before I even knew that it is a slang term (I did know about the movie). Oh well, I’m not going to change it. I like it.

This hat will fit most. I would say that it is medium to large. Circumference of the rim is 20″ (approx. 51cm) unstretched.

Pumpkin Vines

Feel free to cast on any desired number of stitches for this part of the project. The instructions below are what I used for the hat shown above.

For the longer vine, I cast on 30 sts using US 8 (5mm) needle. Then BO knit-wise using US 10 (6mm) needle.

For the shorter vine, cast on 25 sts and repeat directions above.

Finally, attach all pieces to the hat and weave in all loose ends! Hope you enjoy this pattern and don’t forget to like us on Facebook.

Happy knitting!

Hi! I really love this pattern and I am attempting to make it…but when I get to the end of the orange color, after round 38, I have 48 stitches left on my circular, not 44. Changing to the second color, I’ve decided to knit the first round, then start round 2 in the second color doing ssk, k10. I hope this works. I’m not sure if I messed up somewhere…but either way, thank you so much for this pattern! =]
